Susan asked me if we might concoct some small tokens of hope and strength to carry us all through this difficult time, and to keep our beloved worldwide artisans working through the scarcity of the pandemic.
Knowing that the 50 year anniversary of Love Story will be celebrated on December 12 of this year, we wondered aloud about what Story is being told in this time.
HOPE is our story, I am convinced.
Hope is what we reach for within ourselves when things are chaotic, confusing, even frightening. Hope is what we extend to one another, especially to those who have lost work, like many artisans, and don't know where the next meal might be found.
So I chose to duplicate the bright colours associated with Love Story and to add to them, HOPE. I believe that both of these words are absolutely the basis for the brilliant work of Ibu, all around the world.
The team at Ibu went to artisans in Haiti, Rwanda, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Colombia, and Kenya to render this design in their own ways and participate in this special little collection which will help support the work of all 130+ groups with which Ibu works. I am so happy to offer these items to you for giving to those you love in the season ahead.
In this spirit, I wish for each of the artisans, and for all of you, a great and honest Hope for the world, and for this Holiday Season.
- Ali
