Heritage Meets Modernity: Handcrafted Pieces from Istanbul

This week we’re highlighting three one-of-a-kind statement pieces created by a father–daughter artisan team in Istanbul, whose daily walk to work passes between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia; a living reminder of the history woven into everything they make.

In a neighborhood where many traditional trades have disappeared, they continue a lineage of extraordinary textile craftsmanship, using slow, heritage techniques from hand-tying and dyeing silk threads in ancient Ottoman patterns to meticulous hand-weaving and tailoring.

We so deeply admire pieces like these that carry stories within every stitch; garments that don’t just dress the body but express heritage, artistry, and bold individuality. Two of the pieces are crafted from vintage Suzani textiles, hand-embroidered works of art rich with symbolic motifs of protection, abundance, and joy, reimagined as a modern short kimono and a striking bomber jacket that blend heritage embroidery with contemporary silhouettes.

The third is an extraordinary silk Ikat coat, specially woven in 100% silk for fluid drape and softness, then tailored with deep blue velvet lapels and cuffs accented by dusty coral tones. Each piece is entirely unique, a true collector’s garment where history, craftsmanship, and modern design meet.
