Ibulliance: Memos from the Movement
Dear Ibu Allies,
After attending your Ten-Year Celebration last March and hearing from the artisan leaders of Ibu, I am more inspired than ever to welcome you to Morocco during the Ibu Fringe Road Adventure next year. It's exciting to be a part of this movement and watch it grow worldwide. My friendship with Ibu founder, Susan Hull Walker, goes back 25 years, when I saw her first lean into textile design and weaving. I was moved to host her for an exhibit of her textiles at our American Artists for Diversity week in 2000 in Marrakech, when she brought 12 friends. Through the years, she continues to bring more and I love the interweaving of our lives.
I look forward to hosting you in my hotel, Jnane Tamsna—the perfect place to relax in the Palmeraie after a day of visiting artisans in rural areas or shopping the bustling souks or dining with the creative leaders of the African diaspora I'm eager for you to meet. The design influence of Yves St. Laurent and cultural renaissance of Marrakech, as well as the natural history captured by my husband, Gary in our gardens, leave so much for you to explore here—and in the stately old Medina of Fes.
I so hope to meet you in May if you are lucky enough to join this adventure. You are welcome to our garden table to experience the insider mysteries of this ancient place where the creative minds meets a striking landscape and beauty is everywhere.
A votre voyage enchanteur,
Maryanne Loum-Martin
