Pais Textil
Founded by sisters Marta and Sandra Castañeda, País Textil works with women across Peru to recover the backstrap loom weaving techniques of their ancestors.
Weavers fasten one end of the loom to a stationary object like a tree and the other around their backs, controlling the tension of the threads with their own body weight. Using native fibers like alpaca and pima cotton, the work supports 40 families.
